D-robe this winter

D-robe this winter

As the dark and cold winter weather creeps in, it becomes more important for Victorians to think about their Vitamin D intake.

Our instinct during the colder seasons is to wrap up and stay indoors, but SunSmart is encouraging people to get out in the sunshine in an effort to boost Vitamin D levels.

The sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the best source of vitamin D which is essential for strong bones and overall health. From May to August in Victoria, head outside around midday with your hands and arms exposed for about 20 minutes each day to help with vitamin D.

People with darker skin will need three to six times this amount. Ensure as much skin as possible is exposed by rolling up your sleeves – the more skin you have exposed to the sun, the more vitamin D you’ll make.
